We have an exciting opportunity for a Manager, People & Culture (P&C) to join Whitehaven (WHC), based on site at our largest operation, Blackwater mine. The mine located to the south of Blackwater township in Central Qld is an open cut metallurgical coal mine with significant coal resource & more than 20 years of mineable reserve. Since beginning in 1967 the mine has grown to become one of the largest coal mines in the Bowen Basin, & with a strike length of 80 km is well established as one of the largest dragline strip mines in the world. Supported by significant truck & shovel/excavator fleets. the mine produces predominantly high quality metallurgical for the export market & has a workforce of approx. 1,250 permanent employees supplemented by a approx. 700 contractors. With a mix of residential, DIDO & FIFO personnel the mine is well serviced by both the towns of Blackwater & nearby Emerald.
About The Role
Reporting to the site General Manager (GM) the role is a key member of the site Senior Leadership Team (SLT) & is also an important interface with the broader WHC People & Culture function. The core function of this role is to support the site GM, SLT & frontline leaders with core people processes.
Additionally, this role is key in deploying Whitehaven’s broader P&C strategy, & supporting the functions of Learning & Development, Workforce Resourcing & Payroll.
What You'll Do
Some of the key responsibilities include:
- Maintaining robust site P&C systems, processes & records
- Overseeing & coordinating annual goal setting & development processes
- Coaching & mentoring of performance management at various leadership levels.
- Supporting change management including workforce optimisation.
- Facilitating culture & engagement initiatives,
- Managing Employee & Industrial Relations (IR)
- In collaboration with the site SLT ensure our people are skilled, competent & available to meet operational outcomes.
- Support operational leads in capability assessment, talent management & workforce forecasting.
What You'll Bring
- Strong ethical & values-based approach.
- Structured & analytical thinking.
- A collaborative, adaptable, & resilient way of working
- A degree in Human Resources (HR), IR or similar
- 5 years minimum HR experience within the mining industry environment
- Demonstrated knowledge in &/ or understanding of employment law.
- Excellent written & verbal communication skills
- Track record of stakeholder management & success in delivering key HR initiatives
