Superintendent Planning (Shutdown and Outages) is a senior level role responsible for overseeing the planning of major shutdown operations in coal mining facilities. This role ensures that shutdowns are meticulously planned to minimise operational downtime while ensuring safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. Review of plant and machine condition to ensure that supply of long lead parts are identified to ensure delivery in line with strategy.
What you will do:
- Develop and manage detailed plans for major shutdowns or turnarounds in coal mining operations, ensuring adherence to safety, time, and budgetary constraints.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams including maintenance, engineering, production, and procurement to ensure all aspects of the shutdown are considered.
- Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimise disruptions during the shutdown.
- Lead project management efforts, creating detailed timelines, resource plans, and budgets for shutdown activities.
- Ensure quality and completeness of work management master data to support the planning and scheduling process
- Monitor the progress of shutdown projects and make real-time adjustments as needed to ensure project timelines are met.
- Ensure that all contractors and employees are aligned with the shutdown objectives and work in coordination.
- Communicate shutdown plans and updates to internal and external stakeholders, ensuring transparency and alignment.
- Providing status reports and troubleshooting issues that arise during the shutdown process
What you will need:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mining, or a related field or a suitable qualification in maintenance within a heavy industry.
- Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in maintenance planning, project management, or shutdown planning within heavy industries such as mining, oil & gas, or energy.
- Proven track record of successfully delivering plans for major shutdowns, turnarounds, or large-scale maintenance projects.
- Strong project management skills, with expertise in developing timelines, resource planning, and budget control.
- Proficient in using project management tools and software such as MS Project, SAP, or similar systems
- Experience in Dragline and Rope Shovel maintenance would be advantageous, but not essential
