About The Role:
We’re seeking an experienced and driven Superintendent – Shutdowns & Outages to lead the safe, efficient delivery of major maintenance shutdowns across our coal operations. You will lead the end-to-end planning and execution of medium and large scale shutdowns, delivering them safely, on time and on budget, while minimising impact to production.
This position is primarily site-based and may require you to work across all Whitehaven operations. Although for the right candidate, we are open to considering your home location provided you can meet the role travel requirements.
This role extends beyond maintenance and encompasses asset lifecycle planning, governance, productivity enhancements, and engineering solutions. The initial focus will be on Whitehaven’s dragline and shovel fleets in Queensland, with broader responsibilities for CHPP shutdowns to follow over time.
What You'll Do:
- Lead the end-to-end planning and onsite execution of major shutdowns, ensuring delivery to agreed safety, time, cost and quality targets.
- Develop and manage shutdown budgets, resources and schedules, driving cost control, accurate forecasting and strong financial governance.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams and contractors, aligning engineering, maintenance, production and supply chain to ensure seamless execution.
- Monitor contractor performance, compliance and risk, managing scope variations and resolving issues to maintain project momentum.
- Drive continuous improvement through detailed performance reporting, post-shutdown reviews, capability development and optimisation of future shutdown strategies.
What You'll Bring:
- A relevant engineering degree or equivalent maintenance qualification, supported by extensive experience in shutdown planning and execution.
- Proven experience in mining maintenance or operations, including leadership of large-scale shutdowns with a strong record of delivery.
- Demonstrated capability in project planning and shutdown management systems (e.g. Primavera, MS Project), with sound knowledge of mining equipment and maintenance practices.
- Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to coordinate large, multidisciplinary teams in high-pressure environments.
- A deep commitment to safety, underpinned by critical thinking, clear communication and a track record of delivering safe, compliant shutdown outcomes.
