About the Role
The Improvement & Analytics team within Whitehaven’s Remote Operating Centre (ROC) in Brisbane has an exciting opportunity for a Specialist – Data Analytics to play a key role in shaping the future of our operations.
This position places you at the forefront of innovation in mining, directly influencing how our assets operate today and into the future.

Reporting to the Superintendent – Improvement & Analytics, you will support our operating assets in making informed, data‑driven decisions through ongoing collaboration, maintaining the integrity of production data, and optimising key processes across the value chain.

What You Will Do
• Validate data quality and develop innovative solutions to reduce the administrative effort associated with manual reconciliation.
• Develop dashboards, visualisations, and actionable insights using tools such as SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC), Power BI, PI Vision, SSRS, and related platforms.
• Build digital products using Fabric, Power Automate and other Microsoft 365 tools.
• Create and maintain clear documentation for data workflows to support consistent and efficient processes within the Data & Analytics team.
• Act as a liaison between on‑site operations and the Data & Analytics team, providing insights and resolving data‑related queries to enable informed decision‑making.
What You Will Bring
• Intermediate understanding of key mining processes and the mining value chain.
• Experience with analysing and interpreting data from fleet management systems and washplant source systems.
• Demonstrated advanced proficiency in SQL, DAX, Power BI, and related languages
• Demonstrated experience with data reconciliation, reporting, and document management.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving capability, with the ability to draw meaningful insights from data.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with both on‑site and off‑site stakeholders.
Highly Regarded Skills
Candidates with experience or interest in the following areas will be viewed favourably, as these capabilities align with the ongoing digital and analytical evolution of our ROC:
• Data Science – statistical analysis, optimisation, data modelling, or analytics‑driven process improvement.
• Data Engineering – ETL processes, data pipelines, cloud data platforms, or database optimisation.
• Automation & Scripting – Python, R, or automation tools to reduce manual work and streamline data processes.
• Power BI & Visual Analytics – development of dashboards, visualisations, and insights for a range of stakeholders.
• Operational Technology (OT) Data – experience with sensor data, real‑time systems, historian databases (e.g., PI), or telemetry‑based monitoring.
• Process Optimisation – exposure to Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement frameworks supported by data‑driven insights.
